My wife and I visited NIKKEI during a weekday to have a fine dining experience. As soon as we entered the place, we both were amazed how beautiful and welcoming the restaurant was. And the nicest thing was that night was about to become better and better because the restaurant is not just limited to great atmosphere/decoration. Service was super friendly and polite. They were answering all our questions and they were very helpful! Before we order, we tried two different perfect and super tasty cocktails!! We definitely enjoyed them! Food was brilliant!! Decoration, flavors, everything was so satisfying !!!! We wanted a nice fine dining experience and it ended up to be a great one! We enjoyed our food A LOT! To sum up, NIKKEI place deserves its money and it is an experience you have to try for sure. Just across the street, they have their summer place, a beautiful garden. We cant wait for weather to become warmer, so they open the garden and visit again the restaurant so we enjoy their fantastic food and experience at their beautiful garden. Do not miss that place!
Overview
Tucked away at Xanthippou 10, Athina 106 75, Greece, Woowoo Garden feels like one of those places you almost want to keep to yourself. I first stopped by after a long walk through Kolonaki, expecting a quick lunch, and ended up staying well over two hours. The location is central yet surprisingly calm, just a few minutes from Syntagma Square, making it ideal whether you’re a local professional on a break or a traveler exploring central Athens.
The first thing that stands out is the atmosphere. The interior blends modern Asian-inspired design with warm wooden textures and soft lighting. There’s an open-kitchen concept, and if you sit close enough, you can actually watch the chefs preparing sushi rolls with precise knife work and careful plating. Having dined at several pan-Asian restaurants across Europe, I pay attention to kitchen hygiene and workflow. Here, the process looks organized and professional-ingredients are kept chilled, fish is handled separately, and the team works methodically. According to food safety guidelines from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), proper cold-chain management is critical for raw fish dishes like sushi and sashimi, and Woowoo Garden appears to follow those standards carefully.
The menu is broad but not overwhelming. You’ll find sushi, sashimi, bao buns, noodle bowls, and Asian fusion plates that mix Japanese, Thai, and Chinese influences. During my visit, I ordered a salmon avocado roll, chicken bao buns, and a spicy ramen bowl. The salmon was fresh, with that clean, buttery texture you expect from high-quality fish. The rice was seasoned properly-slightly tangy but not overpowering, which shows attention to detail. Many diners overlook how crucial rice preparation is in sushi; chefs often train for years to master that balance of vinegar, sugar, and salt.
The bao buns were soft and airy, stuffed generously with tender chicken and crunchy vegetables. Meanwhile, the ramen broth had depth, suggesting it had been simmered for hours. Traditional ramen broths can take anywhere from 8 to 24 hours to develop flavor complexity, and although I can’t confirm their exact method, the richness pointed toward a slow-cooked base rather than a quick shortcut. That depth of flavor aligns with what culinary experts often describe as umami layering-combining ingredients like soy sauce, miso, and slow-simmered bones to create a multidimensional taste.
Reviews from both locals and tourists consistently mention portion size and presentation. Plates arrive looking like they’re ready for a food magazine shoot, yet the servings are satisfying. On a second visit with two friends, we ordered several items to share, turning dinner into a mini tasting session. This is actually one of the best ways to experience the menu: mix sushi platters with hot dishes and a couple of signature cocktails. The cocktail list leans toward Asian-inspired infusions, often incorporating ingredients like yuzu or ginger.
Service deserves a special mention. The staff is attentive without hovering, and they explain dishes clearly if you’re unfamiliar with certain ingredients. When I asked about gluten-free options, the server confidently walked me through safe choices and possible cross-contamination risks. Transparency like that builds trust. While no restaurant can guarantee zero risk for severe allergies, their openness makes a difference.
From a value perspective, prices are aligned with other mid-to-upscale Asian fusion restaurants in central Athens. Considering the quality of ingredients, central location, and consistent service, the cost feels justified. If you compare it with similar establishments in European capitals, the pricing is actually competitive.
It’s worth noting that peak hours-especially Friday and Saturday evenings-can get busy, so reservations are recommended. The space, although stylish, isn’t massive. That said, the lively energy during busy hours adds to the experience rather than detracting from it.
Overall, whether you’re browsing restaurant reviews looking for the best sushi in Athens or simply exploring new dining spots near Kolonaki, Woowoo Garden delivers a balanced combination of flavor, presentation, and professionalism. The combination of carefully sourced ingredients, thoughtful menu design, and reliable service makes it a standout option in the Athens dining scene.

Nikkei offers an exceptional dining experience with a warm and welcoming staff that makes you feel right at home. The sushi was fresh and flavorful, and the crab salad was a delightful surprise with its perfectly balanced flavorsThe steak was cooked to perfection, and the black cod melted in your mouth, showcasing the restaurant's mastery of Japanese-Peruvian fusionTo top it all off, the pineapple dessert was a refreshing and delicious way to end the meal. Overall, a fantastic experience that's worth every visit
Outstanding flavors and beautifully crafted dishes The ceviche, wagyu, and salmon sushi were among the best I’ve ever had in Athens. The experience was elevated even further by a wonderfully elegant live singer, creating the perfect atmosphere. Highly recommended
The food was amazing in everything fish related, don’t order the meat dishes - they are so not worthy. The service was amazing - the runner Alex was so nice to us, and our waiter (whose name we didn’t catch) gave us on point recommendations. The atmosphere is great, music and setting was so good. The only thing that doesn’t match with anything are the elephant sculptures.
The atmosphere is top notch with a dj playing perfect house music for a stylish restaurant The decor is very original and cozy. The staff was super friendly but not over bearing. Open air in the summer and indoor in the winter. Food was fusion fantastic!! Located in the posh area of Athens the crowd is classy and upscale local crowd. Prices reflect the food, location and vibe… as it should. Meat and fish heavy of course but options for everyone with food restrictions. Nikkei cuisine is a type of fusion cuisine that combines Japanese and Peruvian elements. Indeed it is not solely Peruvian
The food was delicious, every dish we tried was a solid 10. My stomach was really happy ! The ingredients are fresh and you know it’s good quality food. We loved the Wagyu skewers we had 5 of those!
